Non-Disruptive Azure Migration of Infrastructure Management Tools for a Leading HVAC Provider
Customer
Established over a century ago, the Customer is one of the leading global providers of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, solutions, and services. It is operating in 60+ countries and has annual turnover of over $500M.
Lack of Experience in Azure Cloud Migration
As a part of its enterprise-wide cloud optimization strategy, the Customer needed to move several infrastructure management and monitoring solutions from local cloud providers to the Azure cloud. The Customer’s IT team lacked the necessary competencies to execute these tasks, so the company was looking for a reliable IT partner proficient in large-scale Azure migrations.
Team Augmentation with an Azure Cloud Engineer
Trusting ScienceSoft’s substantial experience in Azure, the Customer contacted us for help. ScienceSoft provided the Customer with a senior Azure cloud engineer.
Our cloud engineer’s task was to migrate the following solutions, including their data and configuration files:
- Paessler PRTG Network Monitor.
- ManageEngine Endpoint Central, a tool to manage all computer assets (servers, desktops, laptops, and mobile devices) from a single dashboard.
- vScope, an IT asset management tool.
- Microsoft Key Management Service (KMS).
Before the migration, our consultant updated each solution to its latest version. Next, he mapped out a unique migration process for each tool, selecting the best Azure instances and storage type to meet each system’s specific requirements.
Our expert carefully planned the migration schedules and communicated them to the stakeholders to ensure the migration would have minimal impact on business operations and user experience. He also ran trial migrations in a test environment to proactively reveal and mitigate any issues and minimize potential disruptions.
Our cloud engineer performed and coordinated all migrations outside of the Customer’s business hours. By doing so, he was able to reduce the impact on users, leverage higher network bandwidth for faster data transfers, and have ample time to stabilize the systems before users started accessing them in the morning.
After the migrations were complete, our expert configured the Customer’s existing IT monitoring solution to track and analyze the performance of the tools that were moved to the cloud.
Smooth and Fast Migration to Azure Cloud
Four months after the project started, the Customer’s IT monitoring and management solutions were fully moved to Azure and are now running smoothly in the cloud. Carefully planned and executed by ScienceSoft’s cloud engineer, the migration went almost unnoticed by the users and didn’t cause any significant business disruptions.
